Lucca

Located in the heart of Tuscany, Lucca is a city that enchants with its rich historical heritage and timeless charm. Surrounded by imposing Renaissance walls, Lucca offers a perfect combination of art, culture, and natural beauty.

One of Lucca’s most iconic features is its walls, which date back to the 16th century. About 4 kilometers long, the perimeter of the walls is now a tree-lined walkway that offers a panoramic view of the city. Walking or biking along the walls is a unique experience, allowing visitors to admire the terracotta rooftops and the bell towers of the churches from above.

Inside the walls lies a well-preserved historic center, where cobbled streets lead to charming squares such as Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, built on the ruins of an ancient Roman amphitheater. The Cathedral of San Martino, with its Gothic façade and Romanesque bell tower, is another architectural gem worth visiting.

Lucca is also known for its cultural events, such as the famous Lucca Comics & Games, one of the largest comic and gaming festivals in Europe. Throughout the year, the city hosts concerts, exhibitions, and markets that attract visitors from all over the world.

The local cuisine is another highlight of the city. Traditional dishes such as farro soup, torta co’ becchi, and buccellato offer an authentic taste of Tuscany. The many trattorias and restaurants in the historic center serve these delights in cozy and characteristic settings.

Beyond the city, Lucca is surrounded by picturesque countryside, with hills covered in olive groves and vineyards. It is the perfect starting point to explore the natural beauty of the region, including the Apuan Alps Natural Park and the beaches of Versilia.
