Worldwide famous for the particular architectural complex collected in “Piazza dei Miracoli”, Pisa is one of the most beautiful art cities of Tuscany. According to the legend, it was founded by refugees ran away from Troy, but more likely Pisa was born thanks to the Etruscans.
The city began its development in roman times and in the Middle Ages became a naval force able to trade in the whole Mediterranean Sea up to the Near East. Today, the square that makes Pisa so famous is included among the World Heritage Sites. Here you can find the leaning tower, one of the best known italian symbols all over the world. Really the tower is the bell tower of the Duomo, located just a few steps, it cocked shortly after its constructions because of a land subsidence in the XII century.
Particularly interesting in Pisa are even the ancient walls, Piazza dei Cavalieri and the Palazzo della Carovana designed by the reinassence architect Giorgio Vasari. Then you cannot leave Pisa without having took a walk along the river Arno, on the “lungarni” as are here called.
